For this solo redesign project, I approached the design through user research and user testing first, before developing the design. After sitting with the user(s), listening to their needs and analyzing the information, I crafted the mobile app first. Mobile presents the greatest opportunity to reach a larger audience and working within the constraints helps inform a simple design. Through my research, I found that users were frustrated at specific points in the ordering process and also after the order was complete. I used personas and journey mapping techniques to find these "frustration points", allowing me to focus my attention on the user needs. Business Goals: Goal 1: Increase number of meals bought through the native app to "x" amount. Goal 2: Increase restaurants served nation-wide to 1 million. This video, made with quicktime, is an example of the process my users tested, leading to many small changes in design. Invision allowed both in-person testing and for people to comment on the prototype online, which I found to be a very useful for collaboration throughout the process. Summary of Testing The testing generally went well, with users able to accomplish given tasks without issue. The mobile app tested better than the desktop version with less hesitation completing tasks or reviewing page information. There was some confusion caused by the limited amount of scenarios available due to the prototype limitations. Some of the map functions and scroll-over functions would be better tested with a more advanced prototyping tool, but users were very forthcoming with their ideas regarding how it should work and function to serve them best. Four users, male and female, tested the mobile app. All were of the “Maggie Millennial” persona type and ranged in age from 26-35. They came from various backgrounds including geology, architecture, UX design and construction. The testers are all medium to heavy internet users and live in an urban environment, with recent experience using an online food ordering service. After testing I added the "no tip" option in response to user input. This video, made with Quicktime, is an example of the process I had my users test. The testing led to many small changes in the design. Invision allowed me to not only test people in person, but allowed people to comment on the prototype online. I found this to be a very useful way of collaborating with others in the process. Summary of Testing Testing generally went well with users able to accomplish given tasks without issue. Prototype limitations in the scenarios available did lead to some confusion, however. Some of the map functions and scroll over functions would be better tested with a more advanced prototyping tool, but users were very forthcoming with their ideas regarding how it would serve them best. Watching their eyes I noticed a lot of movement all over the “Menu Page” specifically. This page needs some work on the hierarchy and the information needs to be simplified, allowing the user to expand out for more detail if needed. Four users, male and female, tested the mobile app. All were of the “Maggie Millennial” persona type and ranged in age from 26-35. They came from various backgrounds including geology, architecture, UX design and construction. The testers are all medium to heavy internet users and live in an urban environment, with recent experience using an online food ordering service.
