Daylighting and Glare Analysis
HDR photography and false color imagery were used to analyze lighting levels and glare in student spaces.
Glare Issues
Exterior shading was not sufficient on this project, leading to issues of glare during school hours. As shown in the photo above the yellow area is well outside of the 1:40 ratio the human eye can comfortably handle.

Shading Devices and Glazing
With full height glazing, the shading devices provided were not sufficient for the times of year when school was in session. Low angle winter sun and spring/fall sun caused serious glare issues.

The Answer
More shading devices mounted closer together would be needed to handle the low sun angles of winter, fall and spring days.

Orientation
The orientation of the classroom wing caused the classrooms to overheat on warm days. When using clerestory windows they should face North, or have adequate exterior shading devices.

POE Templates
Templates were created to help the different teams when they were on site. These sheets were meant to be guidelines for the teams.
